about

This is the second album by Michael Blake's electro-acoustic band Blake Tartare (2002 - 2010). A wealth of Danish talent is featured through out this album including multi faceted singer/songwriter Maria Laurette Friis who also wrote one of the tunes. After a few years of activity on the road Michael grabbed the first chance he could get to record in the bands hometown of Copenhagen and they tear through this ambitious program of new music. Despite having a cold Blake didn't let that deter his energy. For a lark he even sang a tune at the end of the session, Johnny Too Bad by The Slickers.

Blake heard Friis with her group Tys Tys at the CPH Jazz Fest and immediately promised to have her sing with the band. In 2004 guitarist Teddy Kumpel joined Blake Tartare at The Berlin Jazz Festival for one of their most exciting shows. He contributes a lot here as well, playing guitars, mixing and co-engineering. Blake had always wanted to record John Lurie's Happy Old Yoy and on this tasty Scott Harding mix he's joined by his fellow Lizard horn man Steven Bernstein.

Blake Tartare covers a lot of ground on these two albums. Everyone plays with heart and you can hear the joy the musicians are having making music together. Their third album, 2009's The World Awakes, A Tribute to Eli 'Lucky' Thompson was the last time the band recorded in the studio.
